Current Initiatives
Active U.S. development pipeline.
Smartland is actively developing dedicated behind-the-meter power infrastructure across the United States, focused on geographies where utility constraints, demand growth, and policy environment create real demand for behind-the-meter power. Buyers evaluating a Smartland offtake should expect us to discuss the projects below candidly - what stage they're at, what the schedule drivers are, and where there is or isn't capacity available in the first phase.
Active Efforts
- Technical and financial evaluation of legacy coal and hydroelectric plants for behind-the-meter repurposing
- Strategic site targeting for flexible, dispatchable generation assets to serve data center and industrial load
- Competitive redevelopment bids across active U.S. development geographies
- Stakeholder and regulatory engagement to align project siting with regional economic development priorities
- Partner-driven hybrid system modeling integrating gas, layered solar and storage, and forward-looking firm-power technologies (advanced nuclear, hydrogen)
The Path to Q3 2028
Dedicated power is built in stages. Here is the development lifecycle and where the pipeline sits today - so a buyer evaluating an offtake knows exactly what has to happen, and when, between now and power online.
Development & Site Evaluation - active now
Site identification, technical and financial evaluation, competitive redevelopment bids, and stakeholder/regulatory engagement across Ohio, Virginia, Minnesota, and adjacent regions.
Site Control & Permitting
Securing site rights and advancing the permitting and interconnect scope for a selected site, with land acquisition led in-house.
Notice to Proceed (NTP)
Capacity reserved and contracted; the ~24-month build clock starts at NTP.
Construction & Commissioning
Modular 10 MW RICE generation installed and commissioned in blocks; MV distribution and controls built out and validated.
Initial Capacity Online - targeted Q3 2028
First customer load energized under a contract-backed SLA. Capacity scales with customer phases.
